Three Great Botanical Gardens You Can Visit in Los Angeles Right Now
Los Angeles County may be in lockdown, but there are still plenty of safe and fun activities you and your family (or spouse or partner or frenemy) can do in the area. One fun thing you can do right now is to go to a botanical garden. By visiting a botanical garden in Los Angeles County, you can take a stroll through a carefully curated Japanese garden, view some fantastic art installations, and even get lit on a chilled cocktail or two, all within the same day.
For those seeking a little beauty and nature in their lives – or are tired of staring at the same four walls in their homes, below are three great botanical gardens you can visit in Los Angeles County right now.
Descanso Gardens
Descanso Gardens is one of the most relaxing botanical gardens in Los Angeles County. Located in La Cañada Flintridge, Descanso Gardens has an extensive collection of California native plants, camellias, and roses for you to enjoy. And if you require refreshments for your journey through the gardens, you can purchase and drink beer, cocktails, and wines while on the premises.
Covid Restrictions: At this time, the Enchanted Railroad, Sturt Haaga Gallery, and Boody House are closed. Non-members must purchase ticket in advance. However, members are not required to make reservations. And please, for the love of God, maintain social distance and wear a mask.
Hours: Currently open every day from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. except on December 25. Unlike the rest of Los Angeles, there is ample free parking.

The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens
There are a lot of beautiful botanical gardens in Los Angeles Gardens. But when it comes to The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, this garden knows it is a pretty gal. Founded in 1919 by railroad tycoon Henry E. Huntington and his wife Arabella Huntington, The Huntington is a 207-acre research institution and botanical garden residing in San Marino. With its top tier art collection and numerous themed gardens (the Japanese Garden is a must-see), this garden is the ideal place for art and botany nerds alike.
Covid Restrictions: Though the garden collections are currently available, the galleries and dining facilities are not. Members and non-members must purchase tickets in advance. You are required to take a temperature check. So, please stay home if you are sick. And if you are well, practice social distancing and wear a freakin’ mask.
Hours: Currently open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day except on Tuesdays. Parking is free and plentiful.
Address: 1151 Oxford Road San Marino, CA 91108
Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden
The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden is a great place for peace and serenity. Tucked away in Arcadia, The Arboretum houses several gardens and historic buildings, such as the Queen Anne Cottage and a gorgeous tropical greenhouse. The botanical garden also hosts several outdoor activities like Yoga in the Green. And best of all, a peacock may greet you as you walk around the various gardens!
Covid Restrictions: All indoor spaces are closed. The tram service is a no go. Non-members must purchase tickets online, whereas members can visit the gardens without reservations. Also, wear a mask, social distance, and do not be an idiot.
Hours: Currently open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day except on December 25th. There is so much glorious parking available.
